Mike Barton

Mike is a former Group Purchasing Director with broad commercial experience gained in major blue-chip companies both in the UK and overseas. He has operated in a number of sectors including the Pub, Brewing and Leisure industries, Agriculture and Financial Services and in a variety of commercial environments including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and new start-ups.

Early purchasing and supply chain experience was gained with Booker McConnell in various of its international operations and this was followed by in depth UK experience developing the role of central purchasing at Whitbread with particular emphasis upon food and consumables. Having seen through the integration of centralised food buying across the Whitbread food businesses and facilitated the creation of a centralised food distribution operation he moved to Allied Domecq Retailing as Group Buying Director, where he streamlined and focused the buying function. Following the acquisition of Allied Domecq by Punch Group, Mike saw through the supply chain integration of the two groups delivering very substantial synergy benefits to the combined operation.

During the last 7 years, Mike has undertaken a series of assignments for high profile clients including Whitbread, Spirit Group, Compass Group, PizzaExpress/Ask and others. All have delivered significant value in excess of client expectations.
